This embroidered jacket is the BOMB.
Fun fact : the Bomber jacket originated in World War II. It was crafted to fit airplane pilots to stay warm in freezing high-altitude weather, yet be agile enough as to not get in the way of the pilot's operation. Since planes were being made to fly higher and go faster, the technology made for a smaller cockpit, leading to the necessity of a smaller jacket that still brought warmth to the pilot. The jacket originally had a fur collar, but was replaced later with a knit collar because it kept getting in the way of the parachute harness. An orange liner was added with time to give the pilot better visibility if ever they were to crash. The Bomber was tailored to cater to almost every branch of the military, and now a days is used as a fashion statement.
One of the main reasons why I love fashion is because of the history it represents. It has played a HUGE role of declaring the culture of a certain time period, group of people, or location throughout all of time. I am fascinated with how it exposes the current state of ethnicity, politics, economics, social status or period of time. It's incredible that this specific jacket was created with such purpose and was used in one of the most significant times in the world to create warmth and safety for those who fought to bring us our freedom.
I challenge you to find out where your favorite articles of clothing originated from. Think of how many interesting things you could find out just by looking it up! Fashion is not all about looking good : it is also about communication. Every single thing you wear stands for something.
